I didn't know Andy well, but interacted with him a few times to get advice on how to do good outreach. His positivity and enthusiasm were infectious and he was such a pleasure to be around. I admired the way he worked, making time for teaching and mentoring as well as research, and the way he made me feel like he was really happy to talk to me, even though he was doing me a favor and giving his time to me. He just had a great presence about him.
