It was very special to have Andy on my PhD thesis committee. When I was making toddler steps into the world of bioinformatics, Andy was the one who encouraged me and saw more potential in me than I could have ever done by myself. It was truly devastating when Andy shared his unfortunate diagnosis with Liz and me when we were actually working on a melanoma-related project together. However, Andy had always remained the most uplifting person and even during the most difficult time of the lockdown last year, he still gave me so much support and great input at my committee zoom meeting. It was way more than the scientific knowledge and skills that he taught me, but also the perspective of being a compassionate scientist. It was a privilege to have Andy’s mentorship, and he will always be deeply missed. Yuting
